We can all learn in a calling no matter what the reason might be but one thing that puzzles me is why young couples with tiny children or new families that just move into a ward always seem to be the ones that get called into the nursey. Sometimes I feel like that lesson Bishop Shumway may have been referring to is obedience. You will accept because you believe in obedience and you have been raised to accept what you are given. That doesn't mean that you like it. I served 5 different times as a Primary choirister and I didn't ever like it very much. I'm not creative and I'm quite stiff around a whole bunch of young kids - I do a lot better with older kids.
David & Tana are the nursery leaders in their ward. I asked David how he likes his new ward and he said, "It's hard to tell - we are in the nursery and we've yet to have a home teacher come. We don't know many people very well." I think that's important as a new couple is welcomed into the ward. Don't bishoprics get that?!?
Well, do your best - it mainly matters to the Lord what you do - not to anyone else. As long as you are good with Him, you will do well and hopefully He'll inspire your bishop to give you a new calling in a few months where you can grow in a totally different way.Ammonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13338550853272716668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18864188.post-6843822704680416362009-11-06T07:22:34.305-08:002009-11-06T07:22:34.305-08:00Hey! Are there other families in your same situation?
And have fun in the nursery! It is hard to never have a break from your own kids, but remember those nursery kids will love you unconditionally -- if you let them. You get to be the fun teacher, and their parents are the meanies. Give it your best shot and see what happens. I agree with Michelle-- everybody should serve in the nursery at least once, including the men. It gives them a new perspective. And the new nursery manual is much better than the old one!chelseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15215754371209648575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18864188.post-42815464476940045802009-11-06T04:26:00.359-08:002009-11-06T04:26:00.359-08:00So good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about you...So good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your calling, maybe it will be short lived. I think everyone should serve in nursery but only 6 months to a year and IF everyone would accept that calling, then others wouldn't be in it for 3-4 years which is what happens. It's sad they put people in there that have young children and never get a break during the week, that happenened to me a couple times. I hope your housing situation improves and you can start having a normal kind of life soon. Best of luck with all that. We still want to visit you guys, just not sure when that will happen.
